Setting up Paxton access control

How ClubRight connects to Paxton Net2 for door and turnstile access, and how to set it up.

ClubRight integrates with Paxton Net2 so you can control door, turnstile, and gate access based on each member's live membership and payment status. ClubRight updates the Paxton database every 5 minutes, so active, paid-up members are let in and others are not, in line with your opening hours and any visit limits. This article explains how the integration works, who is responsible for what, and how to set it up.

Use an approved supplier. We strongly recommend choosing a ClubRight approved access control supplier. They know exactly what hardware to fit and how to connect it to ClubRight, and they carry out the site survey needed to quote for the work. See Choosing an access control supplier for the current list.

💡 Using a non-approved installer? You must contact us first by emailing help@clubright.co.uk to book a survey call before any install. We cannot support a non-approved Paxton installer beyond the setup instructions in this article, so it is important they understand how ClubRight operates before they begin.

When you will need an installer

There are two situations where a Paxton approved company is involved:

  • No access control fitted yet: they carry out a site survey, then quote to install and connect it to ClubRight.

  • Paxton already installed: it needs connecting to ClubRight, and may need new hardware, which the installer can advise on.

ClubRight does not recommend specific hardware options, as that is the installer's expertise. Make sure your chosen supplier fully understands how to connect Paxton to ClubRight and has bench-tested the readers and hardware before the install date.

What ClubRight is and is not responsible for

ClubRight is responsible for:

  • The ClubRight membership database and the Welcome Screen (the local connector between ClubRight and Paxton).

  • The ClubRight side of the integration that connects to and updates the Paxton database.

  • Updating membership data to the Paxton database on a 5-minute repeating schedule, including the latest payment and membership status, so active and paid-up members are permitted entry in line with your opening times and visit limits. This depends on a valid connection to a Paxton database that is online, available, and correctly configured.

ClubRight is not responsible for:

  • Your local network, devices, cabling, and infrastructure.

  • Any element of your Paxton database, including configuration, certificates, version control, updates, and connections to other access control services.

  • Any other on-site hardware or software.

Before you start

  • Use a healthy Windows 10 or higher PC (not a laptop) in good working order.

  • Connect that PC to your router, ideally hardwired, to avoid the dropouts that wifi can cause.

  • If you had a previous membership software provider connected to Paxton, all connections to that provider must be removed from the Windows PC before ClubRight is connected.

  • The integration connects to Paxton Net2 Lite software. Your installer will advise on the hardware you need, such as magnetic doors, turnstiles, speed gates, QR code readers, and PIN pads.

Paxton setup process

  1. Download the licence file. Use the button below. You may need to right-click and choose "Save link as".

  1. Save the licence file to this folder on the Windows PC: C:\Program Files (x86)\Paxton Access\Access Control\ApiLicences

  2. Restart Net2 and make sure all three services are running: Net2 Client Service, Net2 Nginx Service, and Net2 Service.

  3. Install the Welcome Screen. If you have not already, follow the Welcome Screen setup guide.

  4. Open the Welcome Screen settings by pressing F12.

  5. Add the Paxton API URL:

    • For Version 6.6: http://localhost:8080

    • For Version 6.7 and above: https://[MACHINENAME]:8443, replacing [MACHINENAME] with the exact Windows name of the PC Net2 is installed on. You can find this by typing System Information into the Windows search bar; the name is shown under "System Name". Make sure the SSL certificate was installed as part of the Net2 installation.

  1. Cycle through the remaining settings, pressing continue each time, and save at the final step.

  2. Close and restart the Welcome Screen. It should now connect to Paxton Net2.

💡 Note: When the Welcome Screen loads, it synchronises all users into Net2 along with their PINs. All Paxton users are set up as 6-digit tokens by default.

How members gain access

There are three ways a member can gain access with Paxton:

  • QR Code (Fixed): the most popular option, as it uses the member's phone with no extra cost. With Paxton, the QR code must be the fixed type, not the rotating one. In ClubRight, go to Settings > Your Club > Club Access and set the check-in method to QR Code (Fixed, printable).

  • PIN number: generated automatically when a member joins and emailed to them. It is the same as their membership number and can also be found in the member app.

  • Cards or fobs: less common, as there is an added cost to buy and replace them.

Setting up a card or fob

When a member joins, ClubRight automatically adds them to the Paxton database. To link a physical card or fob, have both ClubRight and Paxton open at the same time, then:

  1. Open the member's profile in ClubRight.

  2. In Paxton, find the same member and enter the card or fob number against them, then save in Paxton.

  3. The card number then populates on the member's record in ClubRight. Save in ClubRight.

The card or fob is now registered in both Paxton and ClubRight.

Hardware and compatibility

Your Paxton approved installer will advise which hardware to connect to Net2, such as QR code readers, door controllers, keypads and PIN numbers, turnstiles, and mag locks. The requirements below are Paxton's recommendations, and your installer can advise further.

Minimum PC specification to run Net2:

  • Windows 10 or above

  • Intel Core i3 (or equivalent)

  • 8GB RAM or greater

  • Minimum 20GB free disk space

  • Resolution between 1024 x 768 and 1920 x 1080

  • USB2 and Ethernet

Recommended specification for optimal performance:

  • Intel Core i5 (or equivalent)

  • 8GB RAM or greater

  • Minimum 40GB free disk space

  • Resolution between 1024 x 768 and 1920 x 1080

  • USB2 and Ethernet

For full, up to date network and hardware compatibility details, see Paxton's Net2 software compatibility page. Network security, including VPN and VLAN configuration, should be handled by a competent person, as it is outside the scope of ClubRight support.

If your Paxton setup is not working

If your Paxton access stops working as expected, it is usually a local issue at your club rather than a ClubRight-wide one. Contact the Customer Success team using the orange chat button in your application for the next steps.

In the rare event of a ClubRight-wide issue, the technical team will already be aware and working on it. You can check current status on the ClubRight status page.
