This article is about your ClubRight Website, your public site for attracting new members.
Connecting your own domain (for example www.yourclub.co.uk) is how your ClubRight Website goes live to the public. You point your domain at ClubRight by adding a couple of records at your domain provider, and ClubRight then verifies it and secures it automatically. This article walks through the whole process.
If you don't have a domain yet
If you have never bought a domain before, here is what you need before you can connect one. A domain is the web address people type to reach your site, for example www.yourclub.co.uk. You buy one from a domain registrar, a company that sells web addresses, such as GoDaddy, Namecheap, or Cloudflare.
When choosing your domain, keep it short and close to your club's name, and easy to say out loud and spell. Both .co.uk and .com work well for a UK club. The registrar tells you straight away whether the name is available, and suggests alternatives if it is already taken.
A domain is usually a small annual fee, often around £10 to £20 a year, and it renews each year to stay yours.
💡 Check the renewal price, not just the first-year price. Many registrars advertise a low price for the first year, then charge more after that. Look at what the domain will cost each year before you buy.
💡 Before you start: you need a domain you already own, and access to log in to wherever you bought it (for example GoDaddy, Namecheap, Cloudflare, or 123-reg). Adding these records does not take down any existing site you have.
Step 1: Enter your domain
Go to Settings > Your web presence > Public Website and open the Web address tab.
In the Custom domain box, type your domain, for example www.yourclub.co.uk.
Click Save domain.
ClubRight then shows you the exact DNS records to add.
Step 2: Add the DNS records at your domain provider
Log in wherever you bought your domain and add the records ClubRight shows you. There are two:
A TXT record, used to verify you own the domain.
A CNAME record, which points your domain at ClubRight.

💡 Make sure both www and non-www reach your site. If you set up your domain with www (for example www.yourclub.co.uk), visitors typing it without the www may not reach you, and vice versa. In your provider, set up Domain Forwarding (sometimes called URL Forwarding or Web Forwarding) so one points to the other, and choose Permanent (301) if asked. Most professional sites use the www version as the main address.
Step 3: Wait while ClubRight sets it up
Once your records are in, there is nothing more to do. Every minute, ClubRight checks whether your DNS records have appeared. When they have, it automatically connects your domain and issues a free, auto-renewing HTTPS security certificate. You do not need to keep the page open.
The Web address tab shows live status as this happens:
DNS records detected: ClubRight can see the records you added.
HTTPS certificate issued: your secure certificate is in place.
Your site is live: visitors typing your domain land on your ClubRight site.
You can click Check now to check straight away rather than waiting for the next automatic check.
💡 DNS changes can take time. Changes at your provider can take up to an hour to take effect (sometimes longer), so if it is not live immediately, that is normal. ClubRight keeps checking in the background.

How do I disconnect my domain to use my own website?
If you want to use your own website instead of the ClubRight one, point your domain at your new website first, then remove the domain from ClubRight. Doing it in this order keeps your address working the whole time, so visitors never land on an error page. Follow the same steps if you want to switch website, stop using the ClubRight Website, or remove your domain (sometimes described as disconnecting your URL). Only the club's Owner, or someone with a higher access level, can remove a domain.
Get your new website ready, and ask your new website host for the DNS records you need to add for your domain.
Log in to your domain provider. Replace the CNAME record that points at ClubRight (its value is public.clubright.co.uk) with the records your new website host gave you. Do both changes in one go, so your domain is never left without a record.
Wait for the change to take effect. This can take up to an hour, sometimes longer. To check, open your address in a private browser window. Once you see your new website, move on to the next step.
In ClubRight, go to Settings > Your web presence > Public Website and open the Web address tab.
Click Remove domain, then click Yes, remove it to confirm.
At your domain provider, delete the TXT record you added to verify your domain with ClubRight.
⚠️ Note: Don't click Remove domain before your domain points at your new website. ClubRight stops answering on your address straight away, so visitors would see an error until your new records take effect. If you change your mind later, you can connect the domain again, but it will need verifying from scratch.
Removing your domain doesn't affect your memberships, classes, bookings or member area. Your hosted ClubRight pages, such as registration and the bookings calendar, keep working on their usual links.
