Troubleshooting your custom domain

What to check when your custom domain is not connecting or your ClubRight Website is not going live.

This article is about your ClubRight Website, your public site for attracting new members.

If you have connected a custom domain but your site is not live yet, it is almost always down to the DNS records at your domain provider, and it usually resolves with a little time. This article covers what to check.

First, give it time

DNS changes do not take effect instantly. After you add your records, they can take up to an hour to propagate, and occasionally longer. ClubRight checks every minute in the background, so you do not need to keep the page open. You can click Check now on the Web address tab to check immediately.

Check the status tiles

The Web address tab shows three status tiles that tell you how far along the setup is:

  • DNS records detected: if this has not turned green, ClubRight cannot yet see your records. Go to the next section.

  • HTTPS certificate issued: this happens automatically once your records are detected. If records are detected but this is still pending, give it a little more time.

  • Your site is live: once all three are done, visitors typing your domain reach your site.

If your DNS records are not being detected

Work through these checks at your domain provider:

  1. Check the records match exactly. Compare the TXT and A records you added against the ones shown on the Web address tab. Even a small difference stops detection. Copy them across exactly, with no extra spaces.

  2. Check the record names. For the A record, some providers use @ or "root" instead of your domain name for the Name or Host field. Use whatever your provider uses for the root of your domain.

  3. Check you added them to the right domain. If you manage several domains at your provider, make sure the records are on the domain you entered in ClubRight.

  4. Wait and check again. If everything looks right, the records may simply not have propagated yet. Click Check now after a while.

šŸ’” Visitors reach one version but not the other? If your site loads at www.yourclub.co.uk but not yourclub.co.uk (or the other way round), set up Domain Forwarding at your provider so one forwards to the other, choosing Permanent (301) if asked. See Connecting your custom domain for detail.

If you have worked through these and your domain still will not connect, contact the Customer Success team using the orange chat button in your application, and let them know the domain you are connecting.
