Branded app: your business and D-U-N-S number

How to tell us who owns the app, and how to find or get a free D-U-N-S number.

Apple and Google check who owns an app before they publish it. This step tells us how your Apple account is set up and what your business is legally called. It's step 1 of setting up your own branded app.

Go to Settings > Your Club > Branded app > Your business.

How your Apple developer account is set up

Choose one:

  • Organisation: the business's name shows as the seller. A company, charity or partnership joins Apple as an organisation.

  • Individual: your own name shows as the seller. A sole trader joins as an individual.

If you've already joined Apple, you can check this under Membership details in your Apple Developer account. A limited company can still be set up as an individual.

⚠️ Note: If your club is run as a members' club or association that isn't registered as a company, talk to us before you start, because Apple may not accept it as the owner of an app.

Legal name and website

Enter your legal name exactly as it's registered, for example "Anytown Fitness Ltd". If your Apple account is set up as an individual, enter your full name as it shows on that account.

Then add your website.

Your D-U-N-S number

A D-U-N-S number is a free, 9-digit number that proves your company exists. Apple and Google both ask for it, and many companies already have one without knowing.

To find yours:

  1. Open Apple's D-U-N-S lookup (linked on the Your business step) and sign in with an Apple Account. If you don't have one, you can create one there.

  2. Fill in your company's details exactly as they're registered.

  3. If Apple finds your company, copy the 9-digit number into the D-U-N-S number box.

  4. If it doesn't, choose to send your details to Dun & Bradstreet to get a number. It's free, and it usually arrives by email in about a week. Carry on with the other steps while you wait.

You can also search on Dun & Bradstreet's own site by company name and postcode, without an Apple Account.

💡 Tip: Google may take a few weeks longer than Apple to recognise a brand-new D-U-N-S number, so it's worth starting this step early.

Next step

Once your business details are in, move on to setting up your Apple account.
