SMS lets you reach members instantly on their mobile phones, making it one of the most direct channels for urgent updates, reminders, and personal touches. This article covers what you need to start using SMS in ClubRight: setup, monthly subscription bundles, sending and receiving messages, and answers to common questions.
🇬🇧 UK only: ClubRight's SMS service currently supports UK mobile numbers only. Support for international numbers may be added in future.
Why use SMS?
SMS messages get high open rates and arrive immediately. They are well suited to:
Welcoming new members
Sending birthday wishes
Notifying a member that a class waiting-list spot has opened
Chasing missed payments
Important or urgent club news (a class cancellation, a pool closure, a snow day)
Setting up SMS
There are two things you need to do to activate SMS in your ClubRight account:
Set up the SMS integration
Subscribe to an SMS bundle
⚠️ Important: both steps are required for SMS to work. Without an active integration and an active bundle, SMS messages will not be sent once any free credits have been used.
Step 1: Set up the SMS integration
From the burger menu, click Settings
Select Integrations
Scroll down to the Communications section, where you will find the SMS card
If SMS is not already turned on, click Turn on
On the SMS card, click Settings to open the integration settings
Personalise your sender ID: the name displayed alongside text messages when members receive them. The sender ID has a maximum of 11 characters.
Step 2: Subscribe to an SMS bundle
From the burger menu, click Settings
Select Your ClubRight subscription
Open the Add-ons tab
Under SMS Outbound Bundles, choose the bundle that suits your monthly volume and click Sign up now
Fill in your business and contact details
Enter your payment information and click Subscribe now
SMS bundles
Outbound bundles (monthly)
Outbound bundles cover the messages you send to members. Choose the size that suits your typical monthly volume:
200 outbound messages per month
500 outbound messages per month
1,250 outbound messages per month
2,500 outbound messages per month
5,000 outbound messages per month
Inbound add-on (monthly)
If you also want to receive replies from members, add the inbound SMS option alongside your outbound bundle. Inbound includes unlimited incoming messages per month.
Note: when you enable Inbound SMS, your sender ID is replaced with a dedicated mobile number so that members can reply to it. You must also be subscribed to an outbound bundle.
For current pricing on outbound bundles and the inbound add-on, see the ClubRight pricing page.
Sending SMS messages
Once SMS is set up and an active bundle is in place, you can send text messages from anywhere a member message is composed:
One member: from their profile, choose Message and pick SMS as the channel. See Sending a message to an individual.
Many members: use the Group Messages wizard and pick SMS at the delivery step. See Sending a group or bulk message.
Automated messages: Smart Workflows can send SMS automatically based on member events. See Smart Workflows: getting started with automation.
Receiving SMS replies
With the inbound SMS subscription active, members can reply to your SMS messages directly:
Replies appear in the Conversations section within Communication
The full conversation is also stored against the member's profile
You can reply back, creating a two-way SMS conversation
Activation of inbound SMS may take up to 48 hours.
Managing your subscription
All subscription management happens on the same page where you set up your bundle: Settings, then Your ClubRight subscription, then the Add-ons tab.
Upgrading or downgrading mid-cycle
Your SMS billing period aligns with your first SMS purchase. For example, if you bought your first bundle on the 10th of the month, your billing period runs from the 10th to the 9th of the following month, then renews on the 10th.
If you change your bundle mid-cycle:
You receive a credit for the unused period of your current bundle
Your new bundle is billed on a pro-rata basis from the change date to your regular renewal day
Your SMS credits for the new bundle are also pro-rated
From the next billing date onwards, you are billed and credited at the full bundle value
Updating your payment method
On the Add-ons tab in Your ClubRight subscription, click Update Payment Method to change the card on file.
Unsubscribing
To cancel your SMS bundle, go to the Add-ons tab in Your ClubRight subscription and click Unsubscribe. Any unused SMS credits will not roll over once the bundle ends.
SMS FAQ
What happens to credits I don't use?
SMS credits do not roll over. If your bundle includes 200 credits and you use 100, the unused 100 do not carry into the following month. Your credit balance resets at the start of each billing cycle.
How do I know when my credits are running low?
ClubRight notifies you on the admin dashboard when your credits are running low. You can view your current balance, update billing details, or change your bundle from Settings, then Your ClubRight subscription, then the Add-ons tab.
Why is "Paddle" on my bank statement?
ClubRight uses Paddle as a third-party payment processor for SMS bundles. Paddle is the merchant of record, so charges for your SMS bundle appear as "Paddle" or "Paddle.net" on your bank or card statement. For more details about a transaction, you can visit paddle.net.
Why have my SMS messages not sent?
Check the following:
Your SMS integration is turned on (Settings, then Integrations, then SMS under the Communications section)
Your SMS subscription is active (Settings, then Your ClubRight subscription, then Add-ons, with a current bundle in place)
You have credits remaining for the current billing period
The recipient's mobile number is a UK number (international not yet supported)
Can I send SMS to international numbers?
Not at the moment. ClubRight's SMS service supports UK mobile numbers only. Support for international numbers may be added in future.
